Lucy is a quiet but confident woman, a person who prefers to remain in the background and stay out of the spotlight, but is nonetheless competent at her job.
She's introverted, and doesn't like to talk about herself or her past. She finds it extremely difficult to trust people, and keeps most people at arm's length. Though she can be gentle with those she loves, she won't hesitate to kill if she needs to, or to protect a friend.

Lucy is of Japanese and Polish descent, and little else is known about her family. As a young child, she took a proficiency test in netrunning (hacking) and was found to have an extraordinary natural ability for it. The corporation Arasaka took her and 12 other children and stuck them in an underground training camp, where they were treated as little more than animals, and trained rigorously. Her and the other children only survived by having a dream; the dream that was the fed to them, of one day serving the world's most powerful megacorp and living a good life on top of the world.
When their training was finished, the children were sent on their mission: diving into the Old Net, looking for information that was lost. One by one, the children were picked off by rogue AIs, until there were only a handful left. At their limit, Lucy and a few others broke free and made a run for it. Only Lucy survived.
She wound up in a junkyard, and roamed the desert for some time, trying to survive. Eventually, she landed in Night City, a city that promised freedom and a place to escape. Lucy made friends with Kiwi, who recognized her talent for netrunning, and invited her to be part of an edgerunner crew, led by Maine.
